Turkish passport holders need a visa to enter the United Kingdom. You must apply at a British embassy or consulate before you travel — there is no online visa option for Turkish nationals. Plan ahead, as the process involves an in-person appointment and document review.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
UK VisaYou need to get a visa stamped in your passport before you fly; there is no online visa option for Turkish citizens.
Apply at a UK embassy or consulate
Turkish citizens must obtain a visa before traveling to the UK. You are not eligible for the UK eVisa program, so you must apply through a UK embassy or consulate in Turkey. Submit your application well in advance of your travel date.Required
Passport validityIf your passport expires sooner than 6 months after you arrive, you will be denied entry.
At least 6 months beyond your intended stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival in the UK. Check your passport's expiry date before booking anything.Required
Blank passport pagesBorder officers need a clean page to stamp your passport when you enter.
At least 1 blank page
Your passport must have at least 1 completely blank page for the UK entry stamp. Ensure no pages are torn, stained, or filled with other visas.Required
Return or onward ticketYou must show you plan to leave the UK, not stay indefinitely.
Proof of departure from the UK
Carry a printed or digital copy of your return or onward flight ticket showing you will leave the UK before your visa expires. This is often checked at the border.Required
Proof of fundsBorder officers may ask how you will pay for your trip; having evidence helps.
Sufficient money for your stay
Be ready to show bank statements, payslips, or cash that prove you can support yourself during your visit. The amount is not fixed but should cover accommodation, food, and expenses.Recommended
Accommodation detailsKnowing where you'll sleep makes your visit seem more planned and legitimate.
Where you will stay
Have your hotel booking, invitation letter, or address of where you will stay ready to show if asked. This is not always required but supports your visa application and entry.Recommended
Travel insuranceIf you get sick or injured, insurance can save you from huge bills.
Recommended for medical coverage
Although not a legal requirement, travel insurance covering medical treatment is strongly advised for your stay in the UK. It can protect you from high healthcare costs.Recommended
Arrival declarationYou don't need to fill out any extra forms before you land.
Not required
No arrival declaration (such as a landing card or online form) is required for Turkish citizens entering the UK. You will simply go through passport control. Not required
No eVisa option for Turkish nationals
Despite the UK having an online visa system for some nationalities, Turkish passport holders are not eligible. You must apply through the standard embassy/consulate route with an in-person biometric appointment. Don't fall for third-party sites claiming to offer an eVisa for Turkey.
Plan for 3+ weeks
Start your application at least 6-8 weeks before your intended travel date. Processing can take 3 weeks or longer, and you'll need time to gather documents and book appointments. Last-minute applications risk missing your trip.

What happens at the border

1
Complete the online application
Go to the official UK Visas and Immigration website and fill out the visa application form. Choose the visa type that matches your purpose (e.g., Standard Visitor for tourism or business). You'll need to create an account, answer questions, and pay the fee online.
2
Book and attend biometric appointment
After submitting your form, book an appointment at the UK Visa Application Centre in Ankara, Istanbul, or Izmir. Bring your printed application, passport, photos, and supporting documents. At the appointment, your fingerprints and photo will be taken — this takes about 15 minutes.
3
Wait for processing
UK visa processing typically takes 3 weeks from your appointment date, but can be longer during peak seasons. You can track your application online using the reference number from your appointment. Some applicants may be asked for additional documents or an interview.
4
Collect your passport and visa
Once a decision is made, you'll be notified to collect your passport from the VAC or have it couriered to you. If approved, your passport will contain a vignette sticker with your visa validity dates. Check the details immediately for errors.

Frequently asked questions

Standard processing takes about 3 weeks from your biometric appointment. However, it can take longer during busy periods (summer, holidays). You can pay for priority service (if available) to get a decision in 5 working days, but this costs extra and isn't always offered.
No. Turkish nationals must apply in person at a UK Visa Application Centre in Turkey (Ankara, Istanbul, or Izmir) to provide biometrics. There is no eVisa or online-only option for Turkish passport holders.
A standard visitor visa typically allows a stay of up to 6 months. The exact dates are printed on your visa vignette. You cannot extend a visitor visa while in the UK — you must leave before the expiry date.
Yes. You need to show you have enough money to cover your trip without working in the UK. Bank statements from the last 6 months, pay slips, or sponsorship letters are commonly accepted. There's no fixed minimum amount, but it should be consistent with your travel plans.
No. A standard visitor visa does not permit any form of paid or unpaid work, nor enrolling in a course of study. If you plan to work or study, you need a different visa category (e.g., Skilled Worker, Student).
You'll receive a refusal letter explaining the reasons. You can reapply, but you'll need to pay the fee again and address the reasons for refusal. There is no appeal for visitor visas, but you can request an administrative review in some cases. It's best to consult the refusal letter carefully.
Priority and super-priority services are sometimes available at UK VACs in Turkey, but they are subject to availability and may be suspended. Priority service (5 working days) costs extra; super-priority (next working day) is rarely offered in Turkey. Check with the VAC when booking.
