Taiwan passport holders need a visa to enter Chad. You must apply for an e-visa online before you travel — there are no visa-on-arrival options. Plan ahead, as processing can take a week or more.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Required for all travellers
Apply for a Chad eVisa at e-visa.td before departure. Processing takes 3–5 business days, and you need a digital passport photo, scanned passport bio page, and a hotel booking or invitation letter. Print the approval email and carry it with your passport — immigration at N'Djamena will check it before stamping you in.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your Taiwan passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your departure date from Chad. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding. Two blank visa pages are also required for the entry and exit stamps.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration at N'Djamena International Airport will ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. A printed itinerary or an e-ticket on your phone works — just have it ready before you reach the counter. Overland crossings are rare for tourists, but if arriving by road, the same rule applies.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
While not always checked, having a hotel booking confirmation or an invitation letter from a host speeds up the visa-on-arrival process. If you are staying with friends, ask them to write a letter with their address and phone number. Without it, you may face extra questions at immigration.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry at least 200,000 CFA francs (about $330 USD) in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds for your stay. Chad is a cash-heavy country — credit cards are rarely accepted outside major hotels in N'Djamena. Immigration may ask how you plan to support yourself.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must show your Yellow Card (vaccination certificate) upon arrival. No exceptions. Get the shot at least 10 days before you fly.
Apply early for the e-visa
Processing times are unpredictable. Apply at least 3 weeks before your trip to avoid last-minute stress.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for e-visa online
Go to the official Chad e-visa website (e-visa.td). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport photo, and pay the fee (around $100–150 depending on processing speed). Submit and wait for approval — typically 5–10 business days.
2
Print your visa approval
Once approved, you'll receive a PDF. Print it and save a copy on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and upon arrival in Chad.
3
Arrive at N'Djamena International Airport
After landing, head to immigration. Present your passport, printed visa approval, and return ticket. They'll stamp your passport with the visa. The process is straightforward but can be slow — expect 20–40 minutes.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel. There's usually a customs check, but it's often cursory. Exit into the arrivals hall.
