Visa on arrival
Tanzanian passport holders can get a 30-day visa on arrival at major Indonesian airports (Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya, Medan) and seaports. Pay $35 USD in cash at the visa-on-arrival counter before immigration. Have a printed return ticket and hotel booking ready — officers at Ngurah Rai (Bali) and Soekarno-Hatta (Jakarta) routinely ask for both.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Passport validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date in Indonesia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding. Carry a photocopy of the bio page separately.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at all Indonesian airports require a confirmed onward ticket within 30 days of arrival. Budget airlines (AirAsia, Lion Air) check this at check-in. If you plan to overstay, don't — the fine is 1,000,000 IDR (~$65 USD) per day.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking
Have a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers at Bali's Ngurah Rai airport ask for this frequently. A booking on Booking.com or Agoda with your name and dates works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient funds
Carry at least $1,000 USD equivalent in cash, traveler's checks, or a credit card statement. Immigration rarely asks, but if you look like you're working without a visa, they will. ATMs are plentiful in cities but unreliable on remote islands.Recommended
Cash only at VoA counter
The Visa on Arrival fee must be paid in cash (USD or IDR). ATMs are available after immigration, but not before. Bring exact change in good condition — torn or old notes may be refused.
Customs declaration online
Indonesia uses an electronic customs declaration (e-CD). Fill it online at https://ecd.beacukai.go.id up to 3 days before arrival. Saves time at the airport.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration counter
After landing at Jakarta (CGK), Bali (DPS), or other major airports, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' counters. These are clearly marked and separate from the general immigration queues.
2
Pay the visa fee
At the VoA counter, pay the fee in cash (USD or IDR). As of 2026, the cost is approximately 500,000 IDR (around $35 USD). Keep the receipt.
3
Receive visa sticker
The officer will affix a visa sticker into your passport. Check that the dates are correct before leaving the counter.
4
Proceed to immigration clearance
After getting the sticker, join the standard immigration queue. Present your passport, visa sticker, and any requested documents (onward ticket, accommodation). The officer will stamp you in.
5
Collect baggage and exit
Once stamped, collect your luggage from the carousel and proceed through customs. There's a separate customs declaration form (e-CD) — fill it online before arrival or on paper at the airport.
