Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Original passport required
Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Belarus. No minimum validity period beyond your departure date is required by Belarusian law, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration at Minsk National Airport routinely asks for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they may deny boarding if you cannot show one.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Border officers may ask where you are staying. A hotel confirmation or a notarized invitation from a Belarusian host (if staying privately) covers this. Keep a copy on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Financial means for your stay
Belarus does not set a fixed daily minimum, but officers expect you to show enough cash or card statements to cover accommodation and living costs for your trip. Around $50 per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Visa-free only for land borders
You cannot fly to Minsk without a visa. The visa-free regime is only for entry via land border crossings from Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, or Latvia. If you arrive by air, you must have a valid visa.
Registration required after 5 days
If you stay more than 5 days, you must register with local authorities. Hotels do this automatically. If you're in a private apartment, register yourself at the local migration office within 5 days. Failing to register can result in a fine.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you travel, gather your passport (valid 6+ months), return ticket, first night accommodation confirmation, and travel insurance. Save digital copies on your phone.
2
Cross the land border
You must enter Belarus through a land border crossing from Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, or Latvia. Flights to Minsk are not covered by the visa-free regime. At the border, present your passport and return ticket. The officer may ask about your plans — answer clearly.
3
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (up to 30 days). Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
4
Register with local authorities (if staying more than 5 days)
If you stay longer than 5 days, your hotel or host must register you with the local migration office. If you're in a private apartment, you need to do this yourself within 5 days. Failing to register can result in a fine.
5
Exit before 30 days
Leave Belarus before your 30-day visa-free period expires. Overstaying can lead to fines, deportation, and a ban from re-entry. Extensions are not possible under this regime.
