Proof of departure
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave Russia within the visa-free period. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Recommended

Hotel booking or invitation
Border officers may ask for a hotel reservation or a host's invitation letter confirming where you will stay. Keep a copy on your phone or printed.Recommended

You may be asked to show you have enough money for your stay — around 500 RUB per day is a safe minimum. Carry a bank statement or credit card as backup.Recommended
Strict 6-month passport validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Russia. This is strictly enforced—if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding or entry. Check your passport's expiry date well before you travel.
Registration requirement after 7 days

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before leaving, gather your passport (valid 6+ months), return/onward ticket (screenshot or print), first-night accommodation confirmation (with address), and travel insurance (recommended). Keep them in a single folder on your phone or in a physical document wallet.
2
Arrive at the border
At any Russian airport or land border crossing, go to the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport and departure card (if handed to you on the plane) ready. The officer will check your visa-free eligibility, passport validity, and may ask for your return ticket and accommodation proof.
3
Receive your entry stamp
If everything is in order, the officer will stamp your passport with your entry date and maximum stay (90 days). Check the stamp before leaving the booth—ensure the date is correct. Keep the departure card (if issued) safely in your passport—you'll need it when you leave.
4
Register your stay (if required)
If you stay in one place for more than 7 days, your host or hotel must register you with the local migration office. Hotels do this automatically. If staying privately, remind your host within 7 days of arrival. You'll get a registration slip—keep it with your passport.
