Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Burkina Faso eVisa
Apply online at the official Burkina Faso Visa Portal before you travel. The eVisa is mandatory for Ugandan passport holders — there is no visa on arrival option. Processing takes 3–5 business days, so apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Ugandan passport needs to be valid for at least the entire period you plan to stay in Burkina Faso. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Burkina Faso
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket at Ouagadougou Airport. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary ready — they will check it before stamping you in.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Burkina Faso. Immigration may ask where you are staying — having proof avoids delays at the border.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the visit
Have bank statements or cash (CFA francs or euros) ready to show you can cover your stay. There is no fixed minimum amount, but officers may ask how you plan to fund your trip.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must show your yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) at immigration in Burkina Faso. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated on the spot at your own expense.
Apply for your eVisa early
Processing can take up to a week. Don't wait until the last minute — apply at least two weeks before your departure to avoid stress.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to visaburkina.bf, fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $30–$50 depending on processing speed). Submit and wait for approval — typically 3–7 business days.
2
Print or save your eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll receive a PDF. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at immigration in Ouagadougou.
3
Prepare your documents for arrival
At Ouagadougou International Airport (OUA), join the 'eVisa' queue. Hand over your passport, eVisa printout (or phone), return ticket, and accommodation confirmation. The officer will stamp you in. Keep your boarding pass handy too.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel. There's usually a customs check — declare anything valuable. Then you're free to exit into the arrivals hall.
