Ugandan passport holders need an eVisa to enter DR Congo. Apply online before travel and show the approved eVisa at the border. This rule started in 2024.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Required for all Ugandan passport holders
Apply for a DR Congo eVisa at visa.gouv.cd before you travel. The online form asks for passport details, travel dates, and a digital photo. Processing takes 3–5 business days — do not book flights until you receive the approval email.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Ugandan passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your entry date into DR Congo. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Kinshasa and Lubumbashi airports ask for a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed copy or the booking confirmation on your phone ready. A bus or ferry ticket out of the country also works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to have ready
Carry a hotel booking confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in DR Congo. Officers occasionally ask where you are staying — having a printed address speeds things up.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to have ready
Have at least $500 USD in cash or a bank statement showing sufficient funds for your stay. ATMs in Kinshasa are unreliable — bring US dollars in good condition (no tears, no marks).Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must show your yellow fever vaccination card at the border. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated on the spot. Get the shot at least 10 days before travel.
Keep digital and printed copies of everything
Print two copies of your eVisa, hotel booking, and onward ticket. Also save PDFs on your phone. Power outages and poor internet are common — don't rely on showing documents from your phone alone.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to visa.gouv.cd, fill in your details, upload a passport photo and scanned passport page, and pay the fee. Processing takes 3–7 business days. You'll receive the approved eVisa by email as a PDF.
2
Print the eVisa and pack supporting documents
Print two copies of the eVisa — one for immigration, one as backup. Also print your hotel booking and onward ticket. Keep digital copies on your phone.
3
Arrive at the border or airport
At N'djili Airport in Kinshasa or at land borders like Goma or Bukavu, go to the immigration desk. Present your passport, printed eVisa, hotel booking, and onward ticket. The officer will stamp you in.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from baggage claim (if flying) and proceed through customs. There's usually no customs declaration form for personal items.
