Ugandan passport holders need a visa to enter the United Kingdom. You must apply and get approval before you travel — there is no visa on arrival. Standard visitor visa processing takes about 3 weeks, so apply at least a month before your trip.

Apply early — no last-minute visa
There is no visa on arrival for Ugandan passport holders. You must get approval before you fly. Apply at least 4 weeks before your trip to account for processing delays.
Biometrics appointment required
You cannot skip the in-person appointment at the Kampala visa centre. You'll give fingerprints and a photo. Children under 5 are exempt from fingerprints but still need to attend.

Apply Online
Go to gov.uk/apply-uk-visa and fill out the Standard Visitor visa form. You'll need your passport details, travel dates, accommodation info, and employment or financial details.

Book Biometrics Appointment
After submitting, book an appointment at the UK Visa Application Centre in Kampala (or another centre if you're abroad). You'll give fingerprints and a digital photo.

Submit Supporting Documents
Upload scanned copies of your passport, bank statements, employment letter, accommodation proof, and travel itinerary. You can also bring physical copies to your appointment.

Wait for Decision
Standard processing takes 3 weeks. You'll get an email when your passport is ready. Track it online using your reference number.

Travel to the UK
When you land at Heathrow, Gatwick, or any UK airport, join the 'All Other Passports' queue. Have your passport, visa vignette, return ticket, and accommodation address ready. The officer may ask about your plans — be clear and honest.

Standard processing is about 3 weeks after your biometrics appointment. You can pay extra for priority (5 working days, about £500) or super priority (next working day, about £800). These fees are in addition to the £115 visa fee.
No. Standard Visitor visas are not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must leave and apply for a different visa type (e.g., a long-term visitor visa valid for 2, 5, or 10 years).
Your application will be rejected. Renew your passport first, then apply. The 6 months are counted from your arrival date in the UK.
Not during the online application, but you must have one before you travel. Immigration officers at the border may ask to see it. A flexible ticket you can change is fine.
No. You cannot work, do business, or study a course longer than 30 days. You can attend meetings, conferences, or short training. If you want to work or study, you need a different visa.

You'll get a refusal letter explaining why. Common reasons: insufficient funds, unclear travel plans, or weak ties to Uganda. You can reapply, but you'll pay the fee again and need to address the refusal reasons. There's no appeal for visitor visas.
