Carry a confirmed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host in Taiwan. Immigration may ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended

Have bank statements or a credit card ready to demonstrate you have enough money for your stay. Taiwan does not publish a fixed minimum, but around NT$10,000 per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
No visa on arrival — apply well in advance
Ugandan passport holders cannot get a visa at the airport in Taiwan. You must apply and receive approval before you fly. Start the process at least 3 weeks before your trip.
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Taiwan. If it expires sooner, renew it first. Also ensure you have at least 1 blank page for the entry stamp.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Gather your passport (6+ months validity, 1 blank page), two passport photos, return flight booking, first-night hotel confirmation, and travel insurance. Have digital copies as backup.
2
Complete the online visa application
Go to visawebapp.boca.gov.tw and fill out the visa application form. Select 'Uganda' as your nationality and 'Taiwan' as destination. Print the confirmation page after submission.
3
Submit application at the embassy
Take your printed application, passport, photos, and supporting documents to the nearest Taiwanese embassy or consulate. For Uganda, this is typically the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Nairobi, Kenya, or the embassy in Pretoria, South Africa. You may need to book an appointment in advance.
4
Wait for processing
Processing usually takes 5–10 working days. You'll be notified when your visa is ready. Some applications may take longer if additional checks are needed.
5
Collect your visa and travel
Once approved, your visa will be stamped in your passport. Check the validity dates and entry conditions. Carry all supporting documents (flight, hotel, insurance) when you travel to Taiwan.
6
Arrive at Taiwan immigration
At the airport in Taipei (Taoyuan TPE or Songshan TSA), proceed to the 'Foreigners' queue. Have your passport with visa, return ticket, and hotel booking ready. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and length of stay.
