Visa on arrival
US passport holders get a 14-day visa on arrival at Bahrain International Airport. The fee is 5 BHD (~$13 USD) for a single entry, payable by credit card or cash. You can extend once for another 14 days at the NPRA office for 10 BHD.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Passport validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Bahrain. Airlines check this at check-in — if you're under 6 months, they'll deny boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready. If you're flying out to a third country, that works too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration may ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation email or a letter from your host in Bahrain is enough. I've never been asked, but it's smart to have it on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Financial means
Officers can ask to see you have enough cash or credit for your stay. A bank statement or credit card with a decent limit usually satisfies them. I've never been asked, but it's in the rules.Recommended
Visa on arrival is straightforward
The process at Bahrain International Airport is quick — usually under 10 minutes. Have your documents ready and you'll be through without hassle.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Don't risk it — if your passport has less than 6 months left, renew it before you fly. Airlines may also deny boarding if your passport doesn't meet the requirement.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Bahrain International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' counters before immigration. These are clearly marked in the arrivals hall.
2
Present Documents and Pay Fee
Hand over your passport, return ticket, and accommodation proof. Pay the visa fee (5 BHD for a 14-day visa, payable in cash or card). The officer will process and stamp your passport.
3
Proceed to Immigration
Once you have the visa stamp, go to the immigration counter. The officer will check your passport and may ask about your stay. Answer clearly and you're through.
