Estonia entry requirements for United States passport holders
US passport holders can enter Estonia without a visa for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This covers tourism, business, or short-term study. As of 2025, the rules are unchanged under the Schengen Area agreement.
Entry requirements
| Requirement | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Valid passport Must be valid for the duration of your stay | Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Estonia. Estonia follows Schengen rules — your passport just needs to cover your stay, not the 6-month buffer some countries require. Airlines may still enforce 6 months validity, so check with your carrier before departure. | Required |
| Return or onward ticket Required for Schengen entry | Immigration officers at Tallinn Airport will ask for proof of onward travel — a return flight, a ticket to a non-Schengen country, or a land/sea booking out of the Schengen zone. Have a printed or digital copy ready. Budget airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air check this at check-in too. | Required |
| Proof of accommodation Hotel booking or host invitation | Border officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from a friend/host with their address and phone number. A screenshot on your phone works fine. | Recommended |
| Proof of funds Cash, card, or bank statement | Estonia rarely checks funds for US passport holders, but Schengen rules say you need about €100 per day of stay. A credit card with a reasonable limit or a recent bank statement on your phone covers this. ATMs are everywhere in Tallinn if you need cash. | Recommended |
