Schengen area rules apply
Iceland is part of the Schengen area. Your 90-day visa-free stay counts across all 27 Schengen countries. If you've already spent time in France or Germany, that time counts toward your 90-day limit.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check passport validity at check-in. If your passport has less than 6 months validity from your entry date, you may be denied boarding. Check your passport well before your flight.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Keflavík International Airport (KEF)
After landing, follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Passport Control'. There are two queues: one for EU/EEA/Schengen citizens and one for all other passports. Join the 'All passports' queue. Have your passport, return ticket (screenshot), and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. This usually takes 2–5 minutes.
2
Entering Iceland via other Schengen countries
If you fly via a Schengen country (e.g., Germany, France, Spain), you clear immigration at your first Schengen entry point. For example, if you land in Frankfurt first, you go through German border control there. Iceland has no internal border checks within Schengen.
3
Leaving Iceland
There is no exit immigration control in Iceland. You simply check in for your flight and go through security. Your departure is recorded by the airline and shared with authorities.
