Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Azerbaijan eVisa at evisa.gov.az at least 3 working days before departure. The eVisa costs $25 USD and allows a single entry for up to 30 days. Print the approved eVisa and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Azerbaijan. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by law, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended
Hotel booking confirmations or a letter of invitation from a host in Azerbaijan can speed up the immigration process. Officers rarely demand it, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended
Carry evidence of sufficient funds for your stay — around $50 USD per day is a safe benchmark. Bank statements or a credit card with available limit work fine.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Azerbaijan, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, the airline will deny boarding.
Registration required after 15 days
If you stay longer than 15 days, you must be registered with the State Migration Service. Hotels do this automatically. If staying with friends or family, you must register yourself at a local migration office. Fines apply for non-compliance.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to evisa.gov.az, fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee (around $20 USD). Processing takes up to 3 business days. You'll receive the eVisa by email as a PDF.
2
Print or save your eVisa
Print a paper copy of the eVisa and also save it on your phone. Immigration at Baku Airport will scan the barcode. Having both backups avoids trouble if your phone dies.
3
Prepare documents for arrival
At Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport, eVisa printout, return ticket, and hotel booking ready. The officer will check your visa and stamp you in. The process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
4
Register with local authorities (if staying >15 days)
If you stay longer than 15 days, your hotel or host must register you with the State Migration Service within 15 days of arrival. If you're in a private home, you need to do this yourself at a migration office. Failure can result in a fine when you leave.

No. Vietnamese passport holders must have an eVisa regardless of other visas. There is no visa waiver for third-country visa holders.
Overstaying even one day results in a fine of about 200 AZN (roughly $120 USD) and possible deportation. Extensions are not available for eVisa holders — you must leave before the 30 days are up.
If you stay more than 15 days, your hotel or host must register you with the State Migration Service. If you're in a private residence, you must register yourself within 15 days. Failure to register can lead to a fine when you exit.

Rejections are rare but can happen if your photo doesn't meet requirements or your passport has less than 6 months validity. You can reapply with corrected information. There is no appeal process.
No, it's not required by law. But it's strongly recommended because medical costs can be high. Some hotels may ask for proof of insurance during check-in.
