What happens at the border

1
Apply for your visa online
Go to the Irish visa website (visas.inis.gov.ie) and complete the online application. You'll need to create an account, fill in your details, and pay the visa fee (typically €80 for a single-entry visa). After submission, you'll get a summary sheet to print.
2
Submit your documents
Take your printed application summary, passport, passport-sized photo, and supporting documents (flight booking, accommodation, bank statements, insurance) to the nearest Irish visa application centre. In Zambia, this is the VFS Global centre in Lusaka. You may need to book an appointment online first.
3
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 4–8 weeks. During peak season (summer), it can take longer. You can track your application online. Once approved, your passport will be returned with the visa sticker.
4
Travel to Ireland
When you arrive at Dublin Airport or any other Irish port of entry, go to the 'Non-EEA' queue. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation booking ready. The immigration officer may ask about your plans — answer honestly and briefly.
