Belgian passport holders can enter Norway without a visa for short stays. As of 2026, you can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism, business, or family visits. Just make sure your passport meets the validity requirements and you have your return ticket handy.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay in Norway
Your Belgian passport needs to be valid for the whole time you're in Norway. Norway follows Schengen rules — you can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen zone, not just Norway. Airlines check passport validity at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration officers at Oslo Gardermoen and other Norwegian entry points routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you'll leave the Schengen zone before your 90 days expire. Budget airlines like Norwegian and Ryanair also check this at boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have your hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter of invitation from your Norwegian host ready. Border officers ask for it often enough that you don't want to be the person fumbling through emails at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient means for your stay
Carry evidence of enough money for your trip — a bank statement or credit card with available credit works. Norway is expensive, so having a visible balance of at least 500 NOK per day (roughly €45) covers you if asked.Recommended
Schengen area rules apply
Norway is part of the Schengen area but not the EU. Your 90-day visa-free stay counts across all Schengen countries. If you've already spent time in France or Germany earlier in the year, that time counts toward your 90-day limit in Norway.
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Norway. If it expires sooner, you will be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Check your passport now, not at the airport.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you leave, check your passport validity (6+ months from entry), print or save your return ticket, and have your accommodation booking ready. If you're flying into Oslo Gardermoen (OSL), Bergen (BGO), or any other Norwegian airport, you'll go through passport control on arrival.
2
Arrive at passport control
Join the queue for non-EU/EEA nationals (even though Belgium is in the EU, Norway is not in the EU — but it is in the Schengen area, so you'll use the EU/EEA line). Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer may ask the purpose of your visit and how long you're staying.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. This stamp is your proof of legal entry. Keep your passport safe — you'll need it for hotel check-ins and if asked by police.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. Norway has a green channel for goods under duty-free limits and a red channel for declarations. If you have nothing to declare, walk straight through the green channel.
