Belgian passport holders can visit the United Kingdom for up to 180 days without a visa. This covers tourism, business meetings, study courses up to 6 months, and short-term paid engagements allowed under UK visitor rules. The UK is not in the Schengen Area, so your 90-day Schengen limit doesn't apply here.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
ETA application
Electronic Travel Authorisation
Apply for a UK ETA at gov.uk/apply-uk-visa before you fly. The £10 fee covers multiple trips for up to 2 years. Most applications are approved within minutes, but apply at least 48 hours before departure to be safe.Apply for ETARequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Belgian passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in the UK. No minimum validity beyond departure is required, but airlines may check for 6 months — carry your return ticket to show you're leaving.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at UK borders routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a return ticket or onward flight booked before you arrive. A bus or train ticket to the EU also works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Booking.com or Airbnb receipts work fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
UK immigration can ask to see you have enough money for your stay. A recent bank statement showing a few thousand euros or a credit card with available limit usually satisfies them. No fixed amount is published.Recommended
Overstaying is serious
The UK takes overstaying very seriously. Even a few days can lead to a re-entry ban. Set a calendar reminder to leave before day 180.
eGates save time
Use the eGates at major airports — they're faster and you don't need to answer questions. Just scan your passport and look at the camera.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at UK border
At airports like Heathrow, Gatwick, or Manchester, join the 'Non-UK' or 'All other passports' queue. Have your passport, return ticket (on your phone or printed), and accommodation confirmation ready.
2
Hand over your passport
The Border Force officer will scan your passport, ask a few questions (purpose of visit, where you're staying, how long, when you leave). Answer honestly and briefly.
3
Get your entry stamp
If approved, you'll receive a stamp in your passport. Check the date — it's usually valid for up to 6 months. If you're using eGates (available at many airports), you won't get a stamp but your entry is still recorded electronically.
