Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Thailand
Your Swiss passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from the day you leave Thailand. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Outbound flight within 60 days
Immigration at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports routinely asks for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward flight ticket leaving Thailand within 60 days of arrival.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration officers occasionally ask where you're staying. Have a hotel confirmation, hostel booking, or a letter from your host ready to show.Recommended
Proof of funds
Minimum 20,000 THB per person
Thai immigration can request proof you have at least 20,000 THB (about 500 CHF) in cash, traveler's cheques, or a bank statement. Carry a mix of cash and a card to be safe.Recommended
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)TDAC
Optional online pre-registration
TDAC is a free 2-minute online form at tdac.immigration.go.th. Fill it in before your flight and you'll get a QR code that lets you use the faster immigration lane at major airports.Register for TDACOptional
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding. Renew well in advance.
TDAC saves time at immigration
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card is free and optional, but completing it online before you fly can cut your queue time significantly. Do it 72 hours before arrival at tdac.immigration.go.th.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months), book a return/onward flight, and confirm your first night's accommodation. Optionally complete the TDAC online and arrange an eSIM.
2
Arrive at a Thai airport
You'll land at Suvarnabhumi (BKK), Don Mueang (DMK), Phuket (HKT), Chiang Mai (CNX), or other international airports. Follow signs to 'Passport Control' or 'Immigration'.
3
Queue at immigration
Join the 'Foreign Passport' queue. Have your passport, boarding pass, and any requested documents ready. If you completed TDAC, you may use a faster lane.
4
Present documents and receive entry stamp
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and for proof of onward travel. They will stamp your passport with a 60-day visa-free entry.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your checked bags from the carousel, then proceed through customs (green channel for most travelers). You're now in Thailand.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free entry is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must leave Thailand and re-enter (visa run) or apply for a different visa type before traveling, such as a tourist visa or a long-stay visa.
Overstay is fined at 500 THB per day (about $14 USD), up to a maximum of 20,000 THB. Overstaying more than 90 days can result in a ban from re-entering Thailand for 1 year. Always leave on time or get an extension before your stamp expires.
No, there is no official requirement to show bank statements or cash for Swiss passport holders. However, if an officer suspects you cannot support yourself, they may ask. Having a credit card or a few hundred dollars in cash is wise.
No, the Thailand Digital Arrival Card is optional. It's a free online form that speeds up immigration processing. If you don't complete it, you'll just fill out a paper arrival card at the airport. Both work fine.
Yes, Swiss passport holders can enter visa-free multiple times. However, if you do frequent short trips (e.g., back-to-back), immigration may question your purpose. For long stays, consider a tourist visa or a multiple-entry visa.
You will be denied boarding by the airline and refused entry by Thai immigration. Renew your passport before traveling. No exceptions.
If you stay in the international transit area and your connecting flight is within 12 hours, no visa is needed. If you plan to leave the airport or have a layover longer than 12 hours, you'll need a visa or visa-free entry (if eligible).
