Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Apply for a visitor visa
You need a visitor visa before traveling to Canada. Apply online through the IRCC portal — processing times vary from a few weeks to months, so apply well ahead. You'll submit your passport, photos, financial documents, and travel itinerary as part of the application.Apply for visitor visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Czech passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Canada. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Canada
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking showing you'll leave Canada before your visa expires.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb reservation, or a letter from your host with their address and contact info. Officers may ask where you're staying on arrival.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements, a credit card, or traveler's cheques ready. There's no fixed minimum, but you should be able to cover accommodation, meals, and transport for your stay.Recommended
Visa required — no exceptions
Czech passport holders cannot use the eTA system. You must apply for a visitor visa before traveling. Arriving without one means immediate refusal and return flight.
Biometrics appointment required
After submitting your online application, you'll need to visit the VAC in Prague for fingerprints and a photo. Book your appointment as soon as you get the biometric instruction letter.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a visitor visa online
Go to the IRCC website and create an account. Fill out the application form, upload your documents (passport scan, photo, travel history, proof of funds, itinerary), and pay the fee (around CAD 100). Processing takes 2–6 weeks on average.
2
Wait for visa decision
IRCC reviews your application. You may be asked for biometrics (fingerprints and photo) at a Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Prague. If approved, you'll receive a visa sticker in your passport or a letter of introduction.
3
Travel to Canada
Arrive at a Canadian airport (Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, etc.). Go to the primary inspection kiosk or officer. Hand over your passport with the visa. The officer may ask about your trip, accommodation, and return plans. Answer honestly.
4
Receive entry stamp
If everything is in order, the officer stamps your passport with a visitor record or entry stamp. This confirms your authorized stay (usually up to 6 months). Keep the stamp visible.
