Visa application
Apply for an Israeli visa
Ethiopian passport holders need a visa before traveling to Israel. Apply at the nearest Israeli embassy or consulate — processing takes 5–10 business days. You cannot get a visa on arrival at Ben Gurion Airport.Apply for visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the entire period you plan to stay in Israel. Airlines at Bole International Airport check this before boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Israel
Immigration officers at Ben Gurion Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital booking confirmation ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Israel. Border officers may ask where you are staying during the entry interview.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have bank statements or cash showing you can support yourself — around 1,500 ILS per week is a safe benchmark. Officers rarely check this for short visits, but it helps if asked.Recommended
Apply early — no visa on arrival
There is no visa-on-arrival for Ethiopian passport holders. You must apply and receive approval before you fly. Processing can take up to 2 weeks, so don't leave it until the last minute.
Passport validity counts from arrival
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Israel, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the visa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your visa online
Go to the official Israeli visa portal (https://israel-entry.piba.gov.il). Fill out the application, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around 100–150 ILS depending on your nationality). Processing usually takes 5–14 business days.
2
Wait for approval and print your visa
You'll receive an email with your approved visa as a PDF. Print a paper copy and also save it to your phone. The visa will state the dates you're allowed to enter and how long you can stay.
3
Prepare your documents for arrival
Before you fly, gather: passport (6+ months validity), printed visa, return ticket, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance. Keep them in your carry-on — you'll need them at passport control.
4
Arrive at Ben Gurion Airport (TLV)
Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' or 'Border Control'. Hand over your passport and visa. The officer may ask about your itinerary, where you're staying, and your return flight. Answer clearly and calmly. They'll stamp your passport — check the stamp says the correct allowed stay.
