Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in South Korea. Airlines sometimes enforce a 6-month validity rule, but Korean immigration only requires it to cover your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from South Korea
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket within 90 days. If you don't have one, they may deny boarding or entry. A refundable ticket or a cheap flight to Japan works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have your first night's hotel confirmation or a host's address and phone number ready. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, a printed booking confirmation avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough for your stay. There's no fixed minimum, but having at least ₩1,000,000 KRW (~$750 USD) for a short trip is a safe bet.Recommended
K-ETA not required for Finns
As of 2026, Finnish citizens do not need a K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization). You can board your flight without any pre-approval. Just show up with your passport.
Overstaying is serious
Even a one-day overstay can result in a fine and a record that may affect future visa applications. Set a reminder to leave before day 90.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Incheon Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports'. Join the queue for visa-free entry. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will take your fingerprints and a photo. You'll get a 90-day entry stamp. The whole process takes 10–20 minutes.
2
Arrival at other airports (Gimhae, Jeju, etc.)
Same process as Incheon. Smaller airports mean shorter queues. For Jeju, you still go through immigration but it's usually faster.
3
K-ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization)
As of 2026, Finnish citizens do not need a K-ETA. You can simply board your flight and go through immigration on arrival. No pre-approval required.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 90-day visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or short visits only. You cannot work for a Korean employer or do paid work. Remote work for a foreign employer is a grey area — technically not allowed, but rarely enforced for short stays. If you plan to work remotely for more than a few weeks, consider a digital nomad visa (if available) or consult the Korean embassy.
No. The visa-free stay cannot be extended. You must leave before day 90. Overstaying can result in fines, deportation, and a ban from re-entering. If you need more time, you must apply for a visa before your trip.
Overstaying even a day can lead to a fine (around 100,000–200,000 KRW per day, roughly €70–€140), a mark on your record, and potential denial of entry on future trips. Serious overstays can result in deportation and a multi-year ban.
No. Finnish passport holders can enter Jeju Island visa-free for up to 30 days. The same rules apply — valid passport, return ticket. You still go through immigration at Jeju Airport.
You need to apply for a visa before traveling. Options include a tourist visa (C-3-9) for up to 90 days (renewable once), or a long-stay visa like a student or work visa. Apply at the Korean embassy in Helsinki. Processing takes 5–10 business days.
Yes. You'll receive a small arrival card on the plane. Fill it out with your passport details, flight number, and accommodation address. Hand it to the immigration officer along with your passport. Keep the departure card stub — you'll need it when leaving.
No. If your passport is torn, water-damaged, or has pages missing, you'll be denied entry. Get a new passport before traveling.
