Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
ETA application
Electronic Travel Authorisation
Apply for a UK ETA at gov.uk/apply-uk-visa before you fly. The £10 fee covers multiple trips over 2 years. Most approvals come through within minutes, but apply at least 72 hours before departure to be safe.Apply for UK ETARequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Greek passport needs to be valid for the whole time you're in the UK. There's no 6-month validity rule for UK entry — just make sure it doesn't expire before you leave.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
UK Border Force officers routinely ask for proof you're leaving within 180 days. Have a return flight or onward ticket ready — they check this at passport control, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you're a first-time visitor. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and contact number ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statements or cash
Officers can ask to see you have enough money for your stay. Carry a recent bank statement or credit card showing available funds — £50–£100 per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Border officers have discretion
Even though you don't need a visa, you can still be refused entry if the officer isn't satisfied with your answers. Always carry proof of your return ticket and accommodation.
Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) coming soon
The UK plans to introduce an ETA system for visa-free travellers, including Greeks, likely in 2026 or 2027. This will be a small fee and online application before travel. Check the UK government website before your trip.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at UK border control
At airports like Heathrow, Gatwick, or Manchester, join the 'All Other Passports' queue. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will ask about your trip purpose, length of stay, and where you're staying.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport. If asked, show your return ticket (on phone is fine) and accommodation details. Answer honestly and briefly.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. Check the stamp before walking away. If you're given a shorter stay than 180 days, note the date.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After border control, collect your bags from the carousel and walk through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're now legally in the UK.
