Greek passport holders can visit Norway without a visa for short stays. As of 2026, you can travel freely within the Schengen Area, including Norway, for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your entry date.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for your entire stay in Norway
Your Greek passport needs to be valid for the whole time you're in Norway. Norway is part of the Schengen zone, so your 90-day visa-free limit applies across all Schengen countries, not just Norway.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Oslo Gardermoen and other entry points routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you'll leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from your host with their address and contact info. Border officers sometimes ask for this, especially if you're arriving without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have bank statements, a credit card, or cash showing you have enough money for your trip. Norway is expensive — budget at least 500 NOK per day for basic expenses.Recommended
Schengen 90/180 rule applies
Your 90-day limit is shared across all 27 Schengen countries. If you've already spent 30 days in France, you only have 60 days left for Norway and the rest of Schengen combined. Keep track using the Schengen calculator app.
Passport validity counts from entry, not departure
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the day you land in Norway. If it expires sooner, renew it before you travel. Airlines may deny boarding if your passport doesn't meet this requirement.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Norwegian border control
At Oslo Gardermoen, Bergen, or any other airport, join the queue for 'All passports' or 'Non-EU' if you're entering from outside Schengen. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your photo, validity, and may ask a few questions about your trip — purpose, length of stay, where you're staying. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. This stamp is your proof of legal entry and starts your 90-day Schengen clock. Keep your passport safe.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passing through customs (green channel for most tourists), you're free to leave the airport. If you have nothing to declare, walk straight out.

Frequently asked questions

No. Greece is part of the EU and Schengen Area, so you can travel to Norway visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Just bring your valid Greek passport.
Up to 90 days within any 180-day rolling window. This is the Schengen-wide limit. If you've already spent time in other Schengen countries, that counts toward your 90 days.
Generally no for tourism. Extensions are only granted in exceptional circumstances (e.g., medical emergency, force majeure). You'd need to apply at the local police station before your 90 days expire.
You risk a fine, deportation, and a re-entry ban to the entire Schengen Area. The ban can last from months to years. Don't overstay.
Yes, immigration may ask for proof of onward travel. A return flight or a ticket to a non-Schengen country within 90 days is sufficient. A screenshot on your phone is fine.
No, it's not legally required for entry. But it's strongly recommended — Norway has high medical costs, and your Greek public health insurance may not cover you fully. A basic travel insurance policy is cheap and covers emergencies.
No. The visa-free stay is for tourism, business meetings, or family visits only. Remote work for a foreign employer is technically not allowed. If you plan to work, you need a proper work permit.
