Luxembourg passport holders don't need a visa to visit the UK for tourism, business, or family visits. You can stay up to 180 days per visit. This policy has been in place since the UK left the EU and remains unchanged in 2026.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
ETA application
Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
Luxembourg passport holders need an ETA to enter the UK since January 8, 2025. Apply at gov.uk/apply-uk-visa — the £10 fee covers multiple trips for up to 2 years. Approval usually comes within minutes, but apply at least 48 hours before departure.Apply for UK ETARequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your Luxembourg passport only needs to be valid for the duration of your stay in the UK. No 6-month validity rule applies for Luxembourg nationals. Airlines may still check validity at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the UK
Border officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel at UK airports. Have a return ticket or a ticket to your next destination ready. A bus or ferry booking to France also works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a return ticket. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a friend with their address is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers rarely ask for bank statements for short visits, but they can. Have a recent bank statement or credit card available if questioned. No minimum amount is specified.Recommended
ePassport gates available
If you're 18 or older and have a biometric passport, you can use the ePassport gates at most UK airports. This usually means a faster entry — no queue for a Border Force officer. Children under 18 must see an officer.
6-month passport rule strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter the UK. Airlines check this before you board. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before you travel
Check your passport expiry date and blank pages. Book your return or onward ticket. Arrange accommodation for at least the first night. Download or print your booking confirmations and insurance policy.
2
Arrive at a UK port of entry
Most Luxembourg travellers fly into Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, or Edinburgh. Follow signs to 'UK Border' or 'Arrivals'. Join the queue for 'Non-UK / Non-Irish passports' — ePassport gates are for UK, EU, and a few other nationalities, but Luxembourg passport holders can use them if enrolled in the UK's 'Registered Traveller' scheme. Otherwise, see a Border Force officer.
3
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer will ask: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying, and when you're leaving. Answer clearly and honestly. They may ask to see your return ticket or accommodation proof. Have them ready.
4
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the date you must leave (usually 180 days later). Check the stamp before walking away. If it's wrong, ask for a correction immediately.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After the border, proceed to baggage claim, then through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're now legally in the UK.
