Apply early — slots fill fast
The German embassy in Maputo has limited appointment slots. During peak travel seasons (June–September, December), appointments can be booked out 4–6 weeks in advance. Start the process at least 2 months before your intended departure.
Schengen visa = access to 27 countries
A German-issued Schengen visa lets you travel to all 27 Schengen countries (France, Italy, Spain, etc.) for up to 90 days. You don't need separate visas for each country — just enter through Germany first.

Attend the appointment
Arrive at the German embassy in Maputo (Avenida Kwame Nkrumah 506) on time. You'll submit your application, pay the fee (€80 for adults, €40 for children 6–12, free for under-6s), and have a short interview. Dress neatly — first impressions matter.

Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 15 calendar days. It can stretch to 30–45 days if additional checks are needed. Don't book non-refundable flights until you have the visa in hand.

Collect your passport
You'll get a call or email when your passport is ready. Collect it in person or send a courier if the embassy allows. Check the visa sticker carefully — name, dates, and number of entries must be correct.

Arrive in Germany
At the airport, join the 'All Passports' queue. Hand over your passport with the visa. The officer may ask your purpose, where you're staying, and how long. Answer clearly. They rarely ask for extra documents if your visa is valid.
