Norwegians can travel to Iceland visa-free for any length of stay — there are no limits on how long you can stay. This has been the case since the Nordic Passport Union was established, and it remains unchanged in 2026. Just bring your valid passport and you're good to go.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Norwegian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Iceland. Schengen rules apply — you can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period across all Schengen countries, not just Iceland.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration officers at Keflavík Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb receipt, or a letter from your host in Iceland. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least 10,000 ISK (around €70) per day of your stay. Officers rarely check this for Norwegian passport holders, but it's good to have.Recommended
Nordic Passport Union means no border checks
You don't need a visa, and there's no limit on your stay. Just bring your passport. Immigration at Keflavík may still ask a few questions, but it's usually quick.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Iceland. If it expires sooner, renew it before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Keflavík Airport
You'll land at Keflavík International Airport (KEF). Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then to 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA passengers — as a Norwegian, use the EU/EEA queue.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your passport to the border officer. They may ask a few questions: purpose of visit, how long you're staying, where you're staying. Answer honestly and briefly.
3
Show supporting documents if asked
If asked, show your return ticket, accommodation booking, and proof of funds. Have these ready on your phone or printed.
4
Get your passport stamped
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. That's it — you're in. No visa needed, no fees to pay.
