Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Singapore passport holders need an eVisa to enter Kenya. Apply at the official eTA portal — the process takes about 15 minutes and costs $30 USD. Approval usually comes within 2–3 business days, but apply at least a week before your flight to be safe.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your Singapore passport needs at least 6 months of validity remaining from your date of entry into Kenya. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at JKIA ask for a return or onward ticket before they stamp you in. Have a printed copy or the booking confirmation on your phone ready — they check this consistently.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration may ask for it, especially if you are arriving without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have bank statements or a credit card ready to show you have enough money for your trip. Immigration officers occasionally ask for this, especially for longer stays.Recommended
Apply early — no visa on arrival
Kenya no longer offers visa on arrival for Singapore passport holders. You must have an approved eVisa before you board your flight. Airlines check this at check-in.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Kenya, not from your departure date. If it's close, renew before applying for the eVisa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for Kenya eVisa online
Go to www.etakenya.go.ke and fill out the application. Upload your passport bio page, a passport-style photo, and flight itinerary. Pay the fee (around $51 USD for single entry). Processing takes 2–5 business days — apply at least a week before travel.
2
Receive eVisa approval
You'll get an approval letter via email. Print it out and keep a digital copy on your phone. The eVisa is usually valid for 90 days from issue date.
3
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO)
Join the 'Visitors' queue at immigration. Hand over your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket. The officer may ask about your accommodation and purpose of visit. Expect a 30–60 second check if everything is in order.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After stamping, collect bags from the carousel. There's a customs declaration for goods over $500. If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel.

Frequently asked questions

No. Kenya removed visa-on-arrival for most nationalities in 2021. You must apply for an eVisa online before travel. The only exception is for transit passengers staying under 24 hours and not leaving the airport.
The standard single-entry eVisa costs $51 USD (around 6,600 KES). Payment is online via credit/debit card. Multiple-entry visas are available for $101 USD if you plan to leave and re-enter Kenya.
Processing usually takes 2–5 business days. Apply at least a week before your flight. During peak seasons (December, July) it can take longer. You'll receive the approval by email.
Yes, but you must apply for an extension at the Department of Immigration in Nairobi before your eVisa expires. Extensions are granted in 3-month increments and cost around $50 USD. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban.
If you're arriving from a country with yellow fever risk (e.g., parts of South America or Africa), you need a yellow fever certificate. Singapore is not a risk country, so you won't need it if flying directly. But if you've recently visited a risk area, carry the certificate.
Rejections are rare for Singaporeans but can happen if documents are incomplete or photos don't meet specs. You'll receive a reason. You can reapply with corrected documents. There's no appeal process — just submit a new application.
The standard eVisa is single-entry. If you plan to leave Kenya (e.g., for a safari in Tanzania) and return, apply for a multiple-entry eVisa instead. It costs $101 USD and is valid for 90 days.
