What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration counter
At Julius Nyerere International Airport (Dar es Salaam), Kilimanjaro, or Zanzibar, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and boarding pass. The officer will ask your purpose of visit and length of stay. Answer clearly.
2
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 90-day visitor's permit. No payment or forms required. This takes 1–2 minutes. Keep the stamp visible for departure.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. Use the green channel if you have nothing to declare. You're free to enter.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free entry is not extendable. To stay longer, leave Tanzania before day 90 and re-enter, or apply for a proper visa at the Immigration Department in Dar es Salaam before your 90 days expire. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban.
Yes, if arriving from Uganda (a yellow fever risk country). You must show your yellow fever certificate at immigration. Without it, you may be vaccinated on the spot or denied entry. Get the shot at least 10 days before travel.
No. The visa-free entry is strictly for tourism, business meetings, or short visits. Paid work, volunteering, or study requires a proper work or student visa. Working without the right visa risks deportation and a ban.
Same rules apply — no visa needed, 90-day stay. At border posts like Namanga (Kenya) or Rusumo (Rwanda), the process is similar: show your passport, get stamped. No additional fees.
No, Tanzania does not require an online arrival declaration or paper form for Ugandan passport holders. Just your passport and boarding pass. Some airlines may provide a small immigration card on the plane — fill it out if given, but it's not mandatory.
Yes. Zanzibar is part of Tanzania, so the same 90-day visa-free rule applies. When flying directly to Zanzibar, you'll go through immigration there. The stamp is the same. No separate permit needed.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Tanzania strictly enforces the 6-month validity rule. Renew your passport before traveling. If in a hurry, check if the Ugandan passport office offers expedited service.
