Arrival at Swedish passport control
At major airports like Arlanda (Stockholm) or Landvetter (Gothenburg), follow signs for 'Non-EU' or 'All passports' after deplaning. Queue can be 10–30 minutes. Have your passport ready and any supporting documents (return ticket, hotel booking) just in case. The officer will ask purpose and length of stay; answer briefly and truthfully. They'll stamp your passport with the entry date.

Schengen exit or onward travel
When leaving Sweden or the Schengen Area, you’ll go through exit controls. No separate check for US citizens — just present your passport. The officer may verify you haven't overstayed by checking your entry stamp. If you take a domestic flight (e.g., Stockholm to Gothenburg), there's no passport check inside Sweden.
