Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa applicationETA (Australia) — Electronic Travel Authority, a digital visa linked to your passport. Required for all eligible passport holders. Apply via the Australian ETA app ($20 AUD fee) before travel.
ETA (subclass 601)
You need an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) before flying to Australia. Apply through the official Australian ETA app (not the website — third-party sites charge extra fees). The $20 AUD fee is payable in the app, and approval usually comes through in seconds.Apply for ETARequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Australia. Airlines check this at check-in, and Australian Border Force will deny boarding if your passport expires before you leave.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Australian immigration officers always ask for proof that you're leaving the country. Have a printed or digital copy of your onward ticket ready — they check this at the border, not just at check-in.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host address
Immigration may ask where you're staying, especially if you're a first-time visitor. Have your hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready — they rarely check it, but it's smart to have it.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statements or cash
Officers can ask how you'll support yourself during your stay. Carry a bank statement showing at least AUD 1,000–2,000 or a credit card with a decent limit — they rarely ask, but it's a quick way to get waved through.Recommended
ETA is not a work visa
You cannot work or study long-term on an ETA. If you plan to work, volunteer, or study for more than 3 months, apply for the appropriate visa before travel.
Apply early — no rush service
There's no expedited ETA processing. Apply at least 48 hours before departure. If you apply at the airport, you risk missing your flight if there's a delay.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for ETA online
Download the Australian ETA app (iOS/Android) or use the official Home Affairs website. Enter passport details, personal info, and answer a few questions. Pay the fee (around AUD 20). Approval is usually instant but can take up to 12 hours.
2
Book flights and accommodation
Once ETA is approved, book your flights and first night's accommodation. Keep confirmation emails and booking numbers handy.
3
Prepare documents for travel
Print or save digital copies of: ETA approval email, passport info page, return ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance certificate. Store them in your phone and a cloud drive.
4
Arrive at Australian airport
At immigration, present your passport. The officer will scan it and may ask about your stay, return ticket, or accommodation. Answer honestly. You'll get an entry stamp or electronic record. No visa sticker is placed.

No. The ETA allows a maximum stay of 3 months per visit. You cannot extend it. If you need longer, apply for a Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) before travel.

Yes. Even if you're only changing planes and not leaving the airport, you need a Transit Visa (Subclass 771) unless you're from a visa-exempt country. Uzbekistan is not exempt. Apply for the transit visa at least 2 weeks before travel.
No. The ETA is for tourism or business visitor activities only (meetings, conferences). You cannot work for an Australian employer or provide services. If you plan to work, you need a work visa.
Your passport (with valid ETA linked), return ticket, and sometimes proof of accommodation. The officer may ask about your plans. Answer clearly. No visa sticker is needed — it's all electronic.
No, but it's strongly recommended. Australia has no reciprocal health agreement with Uzbekistan. A simple hospital visit can cost hundreds of dollars. Insurance covers medical evacuation, which can be tens of thousands.
