Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Hungarian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in the UAE. No minimum validity beyond your stay is required by UAE immigration, but your airline may ask for at least 6 months validity before boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the UAE
Immigration officers at Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in the UAE. Immigration may ask for it, especially if you're arriving without a pre-arranged visa.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have access to at least 3,000 AED (about 750 EUR) in cash, credit card, or bank statement. Immigration rarely checks this for visa-free entries, but it's better to have it.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check this before you board. If your passport has less than 6 months validity from your entry date, you will not be allowed to fly. Check your passport now, not the night before.
Keep a copy of your entry stamp
Take a photo of the entry stamp in your passport. You'll need the exact date when calculating your 90-day stay limit. The stamp is also required if you need to prove your legal entry for any reason.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at UAE immigration
At Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Sharjah airports, follow signs to 'Arrivals' and join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your passport to the immigration officer. They will scan it and may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying. Answer briefly and honestly.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 90-day visit visa. No fee is charged. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually nothing to declare unless you have large amounts of cash or restricted goods.

Frequently asked questions

No, the 90-day visa-free stay cannot be extended. You must leave before day 90 or overstay, which incurs fines. Overstay fines are about 50 AED per day (roughly 13 USD). To stay longer, you'd need to exit and re-enter, but immigration may question frequent back-to-back visits.
No. Hungarian passport holders get visa-free entry with no pre-registration or fee. Just show up with a valid passport and a return ticket.
You will be denied boarding by the airline and refused entry by UAE immigration. Renew your passport before traveling — it's not negotiable.
No. The 90-day visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, and short visits only. Working or studying requires a proper work or student visa arranged by your employer or institution.
It's not mandatory for entry, but it's a very good idea. A simple doctor visit can cost 200-300 AED (55-80 USD), and a hospital stay for something like a broken leg can run thousands. Get a policy that covers medical evacuation.
You'll be fined 50 AED (about 13 USD) per day of overstay. The fine is paid at the airport before you leave. Overstaying more than a few days can also get you banned from re-entering for a period.
If you're transiting through a UAE airport and staying airside (not passing through immigration), you don't need a visa. If you want to leave the airport during a layover, you'll need a transit visa — but as a Hungarian passport holder, you can enter visa-free for up to 90 days, so you can simply exit and re-enter without a separate transit visa.
