Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Armenia
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity remaining from the day you leave Armenia. Border officers at Zvartnots Airport check this strictly — if your passport expires sooner, they will deny boarding. Airlines also enforce this rule before issuing a boarding pass.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Armenia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at passport control. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight booking ready. If you're overlanding to Georgia or Iran, a bus or train ticket also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in Armenia. Border officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do. Airbnb bookings with the host's contact details are accepted.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have access to at least $50–$100 per day of your stay, either in cash, a credit card, or a bank statement. Officers almost never check this for Irish passport holders, but it's good to have a bank app or statement ready on your phone.Recommended
180 days per calendar year
The 180-day visa-free stay resets each calendar year. If you leave and re-enter, the clock doesn't restart — it's cumulative. Plan your trips so you don't exceed 180 total days in Armenia in any 12-month period.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Yerevan Zvartnots Airport (EVN) or land border
Most Irish travellers fly into Zvartnots. Follow signs to 'Passport Control' — there are separate queues for Armenian citizens and foreigners. Join the 'Foreigners' line.
2
Present your passport and any requested documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket or accommodation. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with the entry date and allowed stay.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. Green channel for nothing to declare, red channel for goods over €10,000 or restricted items.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 180-day visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, and short visits. To work legally, you need a work visa or residence permit. Overstaying or working without permission can result in fines or a ban.
No, the visa-free stay is not extendable. You must leave Armenia before the 180 days are up. If you want to stay longer, apply for a temporary residence permit at the Migration Service in Yerevan before your 180 days expire.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll be fined — typically around 50,000 AMD (about €120) for the first few days, increasing with time. In serious cases, you could be banned from re-entering Armenia for up to a year.
No. There is no registration requirement for Irish citizens staying up to 180 days. Just keep your passport with the entry stamp as proof of legal stay.
Yes. The same visa-free rules apply at all land borders. The main crossings are Bagratashen (from Georgia) and Meghri (from Iran). Expect the same passport checks and possible document requests.
No, it's not required by law. But it's strongly recommended. A hospital stay in Yerevan can cost €200–500 per day. Insurance covers that and emergency evacuation.
You'll likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Renew your passport before you travel. A damaged passport (torn pages, water damage) is also a problem — get a new one.
