Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Irish passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Georgia. Georgia does not enforce a 6-month validity rule for Irish passport holders — just make sure it doesn't expire before you leave.Required
Return or onward ticket
Recommended for visa-free entry
Immigration officers at Tbilisi and Kutaisi airports sometimes ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready — it's not always checked, but saves time if they do.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to have on hand
You don't need to show a hotel booking to enter Georgia, but having a confirmed address for your first few nights (hotel, hostel, or Airbnb) helps if an officer asks where you're staying. A simple booking confirmation on your phone works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry evidence
Georgia doesn't have a fixed minimum cash requirement for Irish visitors, but carrying a credit card and some cash (around €50–100 per day equivalent in GEL) covers you if asked. ATMs are widely available in Tbilisi and Batumi.Recommended
360-day stay is generous
Georgia offers one of the longest visa-free stays in the world for Irish passport holders. You can spend nearly a full year exploring the country without any visa paperwork.
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Georgia. If it expires sooner, you'll be turned away at the border. Check your expiry date before booking flights.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the border
At Tbilisi International Airport or any land border crossing, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport ready.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your Irish passport. The officer will check it and may ask your purpose of visit and how long you're staying.
3
Answer questions (if asked)
Common questions: 'How long are you staying?' 'Where are you staying?' 'Do you have a return ticket?' Answer honestly and briefly.
4
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the date of entry. You're allowed to stay up to 360 days. No fee is charged.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim (if flying) and then to the arrivals hall. That's it — you're in Georgia.
