What happens at the border

Apply for your eTA online
Go to https://eta.cic.gc.ca/ and fill out the application. You'll need your passport, an email address, and a credit card for the CAD $7 fee. Most approvals come through in minutes — you'll get an email confirmation.

Book your flights and accommodation
Once your eTA is approved, book your flights and first night's stay. Keep digital copies of your eTA confirmation, return ticket, and hotel booking on your phone.

Arrive at the Canadian border
At the airport (Toronto Pearson, Vancouver International, etc.), go to the eTA/visitor line. Present your passport — the officer will see your eTA electronically. They may ask about your plans, where you're staying, and how long you're visiting. Answer honestly.

Get your visitor record stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a visitor record valid for up to 6 months. Check the stamp before you leave the counter — if it's shorter than you planned, ask why.
